Virginia Cafe Begins Construction on New Location

This just came into me from Leah at the venerable Virginia Cafe, whose impending date with a wrecking ball saddened many, many, many rollickers.

On September 17th, 2007, the Virginia Cafe began construction on their new
location at 820 SW 10th Ave. Portland, Oregon-the former home of the Willamette
Week offices across from the Central Library in downtown Portland.   This is a
very exciting time for all of us at the Virginia Cafe.   With the eminent
demise of an old favorite for so many people young and old over the years, 93
years to be exact, it gives us great pride to be able to say to all of you, We
Have Found A New Home. Our goal continues to be that we will not be closed for
one single day: as we close our doors at the 725 SW Park, location and we'll be
opening at the 820 SW 10th location that very same day.   Bar Stool crawl
anyone?   We'll also be transporting as many of the classic VC fixtures, such as
our chandeliers, etched glasswork, and light fixtures to the new location.
We are earmarking February 2008 as our transition month from one location to
the other.

With the new location, we have decided to lay down a new round of
personalized bricks at the new bar with proceeds going to a youth/homeless organization
to be chosen shortly. For information on the brick sell, please contact Leah
Douvris, GM, at Lmd3ty1@aol.com.

In the meantime, please come by and visit an old favorite while we are still
on Park Avenue, and if you are a former Virginia Cafe employee, we would love
to hear from all you. You can email us at Lmd3ty1@aol.com.

Stop by and have a Manhattan and look around for the ghosts of years' past;
there are definitely a few of them lurking about. Check for updates on our
myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/virginiacafe .

Cheers!
