Hot Book-on-Book Action!

Wednesday, at my Peter's pub quiz, when I was pitching my forthcoming week of literary trivia, I promised five nights of hot literature injections, which prompted someone on Sense of Entitlement to shout, "book-on-book action!" I told her that I was going to have to steal that awesome phrase, and I am true to my word!

And so, it begins - my week of pub quizzery in conjunction with Wordstock, Portland's annual festival of the written word.  I'll maintain my standard 7 round Triviology format, at all of my normal venues, that my regulars have come to know and love, but each round will have something to do with bookage (hey, I just made up a word!).  Every kind of written matter will be fair game - theatre, comics, literary history & culture, magazines, vocabulary, popular fiction, figures of speech, children's books, you name it! And, in addition to the regular goodies awarded at each bar, Wordstock is going to supply extra prizes.

As an extra special treat, AlliTron will be rocking her keyboard in a live I Don't Feel Tardy round, playing song clips for you ONLY at Hawthorne Hideaway this Monday at 8:00.  And finally, as they have a nice, big TV screen at Peter's 19th Hole, the Potato Power round on Wednesday will feature TV and film clips which will have something to do with - you guessed it - books!

Actually, the literary pub quizzery has already begun - last Monday, Greater Trumps hosted a Wordstock trivia night, as well.  They've been rocking the trivia scene for a couple of years now, and I finally got a chance to check them out, to show support for a fellow Wordstock supporter and trivia jockey.  Their format is tailored after the classic, one-round, 25-question, Jimmy's of Beulahland trivia night, and they do a great job of it!  You can check them out any Monday at 9:00.

As usual, my pub quizzes are free to play this week, and I will maintain a balance of pop culture and book learnin'; in other words, you're just as likely to get a Dr. Seuss question as a Shakespeare question.  Anyway, I want to see all you bookworms out there this week - it'll be a veritable revenge of the nerds! But in a totally cool, hip way, of course.
